Yes! They do provide technical services. They have sent a very trustworthy concrete engineer team to assist me when I was building my home in Bellary.. They provided me with a wonderful assistance on many functions and I was very pleased and grateful for their help and assistance. They conducted various tests to judge the quality of cement, they even conducted tests for the best quality of sand, and conducted on the necessary tests for best quality aggregates. They even did important tests on the concrete for best quality – the slump cone test and compressive strength test. It was all very informative according to me.

There are three important methods to help you select the best quality coarse aggregates.

Sieve analysis – Covers the sampling and determination of the particle size distribution of coarse aggregates.

Length Gauge – Used to determine the elongation index of aggregates.

Thickness Gauge – Used to determine if aggregate particles are to be considered flaky.

The key difference is that OPC cement provides high initial strength making it suitable for bridges, roads etc. while PPC cement provides high ultimate strength making it suitable for varied applications, be it industrial, residential or commercial. Also, OPC is available in three types of grades, such as OPC 33 grade, OPC 43 grade and OPC 53 grade. PPC does not come with any grade.

Two important types of cements are Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) and Portland Pozzolana Cement (PPC). Both can be used for building homes. However due to high strength by PPC in the long run, I chose it for my house last year. I haven’t noticed any cracks on the walls. Also, it provides a great finish. So I’d personally recommend PPC.

There are loads of reputed and well-known cement brands for residential construction, almost all of them would provide you with good quality product for your usage. The bigger and most important question here is what type of cement should be used. Because even if you use the best and most expensive brand, if you are using the wrong cement, then its game over for your home!

This is why this question is so important! Because a lot of people think that cement is after all cement and don't realise that cement functions different and different sorts is used for different constructions - like residential, industrial, commercial construction, etc.

TYPES of CEMENT

Primarily two types of cement are used in residential construction:-

Portland Pozzolana Cement (PPC) - This is a more economical cement. It is known to give your home more high strength in the long run and ensuring you have a strong structure.

Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) - OPC cements are the preferred choice for construction because of faster curing and long term strength of the material. But the OPC cement is most suitable for bridges and roads, etc. due to its high initial strength.

OPC 43 and OPC 53 are the grades of OPC used, while a lot of contractor use Grade 43 for PCC and RCC work while Grade 53 is preferred for Plastering and finishing.

There are two major types of cements that are heavily used in residential constructions. In the past OPC was heavily used for a very long time. But lately since PPC has made an appearance in the market, it is gathering a lot of fame. I have listed advantages of both the cement below.

OPC advantages:

  • It attains the strength in less time.
  • It is available in three grades: Grade 33, Grade 43 and Grade 53.

PPC advantages:

  • Better value for money.
  • Better resistance against chemicals.
  • It facilitates better workability.
  • The ultimate strength is higher

From the above, you can judge that PPC is most suitable for residential construction. It is clear from the benefits why it is so heavily used in recent times over any other kind of cement. Good luck!
